A majority of the project materials were furnished by Lowe’s.

Mesothelioma is a rare cancer caused by exposure to asbestos particles and affects the lining of the lungs, heart, and abdomen. 1/3 of all mesothelioma patients are veterans, and approximately 6,000 veterans afflicted with this asbestos-caused cancer died between 1999 and 2005 alone. Within the Veteran and military community, there is a clear lack of equity and access to community healthcare and supportive service resources (Zoli, et. al., IVMF 2015). Leveraging VA, local, state, and federal resources through our coordinated care network, VBH accurately and quickly connects veterans and their families to the best social and human services at the community, state, and federal level. We strongly believe in a whole-person approach in providing support, and access to community resources and social capital is the foundation of any successful family. Though national unemployment figures are low at less than 3.2%, veteran employment support remains a top need in our community. In 2019, 23% of all service requests to Veterans Bridge Home were for employment; over 930 individual requests for employment assistance. Our organization works with over 23 veteran service organizations in and out of network to provide Veterans with job-readiness workshops, interview skills and engagement in hiring events.
EIG played a prominent part providing both electrical and low voltage as well as the addition of a dedicated Project Manager on the DPR project team. We measure and then disaggregate job satisfaction and retention data by race, function, level, and/or team.
Connection to services is all about getting every Veteran and military family we meet connected to the service provider who offers the support they need in the least amount of time. By involving a network of providers to help everyone we meet, we can offer a tailored solution for each Veteran and military family no matter the need or request. It also means that each provider can provide the service they do best and let other providers do the same. This avoids redundancy of services in the community and makes the entire system work more smoothly to the benefit of the Veteran and their family. Not only did Veterans Bridge Home hope to create a new facility to benefit their organization, the goal was to build the project with as many Veteran owned businesses and Veteran workers as possible. The team implemented a three-tiered approach to veteran involvement.
