We also work and develop strong relationships with over 230 local employers; some who are national, to assist them to recruit, hire and retain veteran talent. Our organization leads the charlotte region in social capital with a record 5,255 Veterans and supporters attending 277 events. In addition, our community received approximately $48,000 in volunteer value through 75 volunteering events with 929 participants. We now engage with over 10,000 Veterans & supporters in other opportunities such as networking, fitness, recreation, special events and volunteering. We have been able to provide these Veterans with means to increase their social capital, resulting in a more sustainable community and an increased sense of individual wellbeing.

Tier 1 focused on a veteran work force so the actual craft workers on site were veterans to the fullest extent possible, with 35% veteran participation. The second tier focused on veteran owned business and Veterans Bridge Home Community Champions such as the millwork, signage, and carpeting vendors. The third tier included the DPR project team of veterans. This highly effective team was made up of DPR, EIG and Self-perform folks in key roles.

To do this, we created and lead an alliance of more than 200 of the best employers in our area who have demonstrated a commitment to hiring and retaining Veterans and military spouses. We directly support these businesses by educating and informing their connecting with hiring managers and talent acquisition teams on how and why hiring veterans and military family members benefits their company - both in revenue and in culture. Through our network of partners, we help Veterans navigate employment, create social connections, and settle their families. Connection to services is all about getting every Veteran and military family we meet connected to the service provider who offers the support they need in the least amount of time. By involving a network of providers to help everyone we meet, we can offer a tailored solution for each Veteran and military family no matter the need or request. It also means that each provider can provide the service they do best and let other providers do the same. This avoids redundancy of services in the community and makes the entire system work more smoothly to the benefit of the Veteran and their family. Not only did Veterans Bridge Home hope to create a new facility to benefit their organization, the goal was to build the project with as many Veteran owned businesses and Veteran workers as possible. The team implemented a three-tiered approach to veteran involvement.

EIG played a prominent part providing both electrical and low voltage as well as the addition of a dedicated Project Manager on the DPR project team. DPR wrote subcontracts to trade partners to furnish labor only and then orders were placed and picked up at the Lowe’s Home Improvement at Iverson Way in Charlotte, NC.
